Funerals in Ghana are among the most wild parties in the world. After it’s cocoa, the Ghanaian funeral experience is probably it s most famous export. For three days a party is held, their t shirts are blood red and the ground is soaked in sweat as the body is laid to rest.

The boy was eighteen when he was electrocuted in Kumasi. It was an accident and should not have happened to one so young.

For three days and nights they danced in the dust. Tapping the voodoo of the Volta Valley.   The elders sat in black robes beneath the trees in the day.

While living in Tijuana in 2006 I was held up by a deputised swat team with M16s for wandering through a power plant on my way to the beach, kicked out of the country by the police for photographing the notorious red light district and narrowly escaped a shooting while planning an illegal border run into the US with a local coyote and friend. These pictures capture a lighter shade of Tijuana’s dark nature.

Birds of Korea

March 8, 2009

Starlings flock above Daechuri village near Pyeongtaek, South Korea. The village of Daechuri was one of two villages demolished for US ARMY base expansion in 2007. There were vast protests and bloody clashes between people and police over the destruction of ancient farmland and home to wildlife and people. The photos here capture the spirit bird of korea above the village in its last days of occupation by militant Korean residents. The birds also fly in these strange wave formations above the place where Wonhyo, the much loved Korean monk of legend gained enlightenment. Korea offers a hidden wealth of animist and buddhist spirituality which is little know to the outside world. The bird formation of many as one, symbolises unity and freedom. This photo was framed by the universe, shutter pressed by elusiveworld photographer and gin lover D.Stills.
