A young Rimpoche, the highest llama in Tibetan custom. When he should be reading scriptures he is found playing with toy guns and mobile phones. Though as he grows older, this young monk will be revered from the Tibetan plateau, across the Himalaya to sub-continental Indian. Buddhists will prostrate themselves on the ground before him as he passes. The most wise and compassionate of all monks. A twinkle in his eye suggests the awareness he has of the explosive danger of this toy. In that small face are lifetimes of experience. The cheeky monkey.

Nutrition is an investment issue. It is something that can drive economic growth rather than ride on the coat-tails of economic growth, because children who are well-nourished have been shown to have much higher income potential as adults.

Pull yourself together ma, you are on camera

My friend Raj took me to his home in the contested district of Gorkha, origin of the British Army Regiment. Here we spent the night. We ate only what was produced from the family’s land. Curds from goats milk, rice from the immaculately terraced paddies and vegetables from the earth. The food was so clean and delicious and the family were very open and friendly. Seven brothers and sisters.

Just a thought - Why not save the money spent on warfare and use it to feed, clothe and heal the world’s population – then we can explore outer space together. Or is that idea a joke?

Trolley Dogs, Tijuana
November 4, 2009
While living in Tijuana in 2006 I was held up by a deputised swat team with M16s for wandering through a power plant on my way to the beach, kicked out of the country by the police for photographing the notorious red light district and narrowly escaped a shooting while planning an illegal border run into the US with a local coyote and friend. These pictures capture a lighter shade of Tijuana’s dark nature.

Accommodation in Iceland
October 14, 2009
The 2008-2009 Icelandic financial crisis is a major ongoing economic crisis in Iceland that involves the collapse of all three of the country’s major banks following their difficulties in refinancing their short-term debt and a run on deposits in the UK.
Elusiveworld travelled to Iceland to get a taste of the ruin there. After camping out on a cold volcano and looking south down the curviture of the earth it became startlingly apparent that not only is the economy wrecked, but the pollution known as greenhouse gas was having an effect up here too. Financial crisis was confirmed to certainly be only the tip of the iceberg. There is a much deeper reverberating cry through nature.
